Responsible Production
Salmon trout (rainbow trout) farming is one of the most efficient ways of using natural resources to produce healthy protein. Fish offers low carbon footprint, high energy and protein retention efficiency.
Salmon Trout (rainbow trout) farming is an ideal option for sustainable use of water resources in mountainous regions at dam lakes because there both surface and underground waters are suitable for this purpose.
Meko’s sustainable farming systems increase the overall economic efficiency of the system and minimise negative environmental impacts. Teams in our feed plant (Blacksea Aqua Feed) are working hard to develop sustainable fish feed. Efforts include controlling waste, managing water quality, and implementing responsible feed practices.
In order to maintain the health of our Salmon Trout we apply fish health plans regularly. We use only good-quality eggs in our farms, which ensures low fish mortality. We invest in our production techniques and improve our health plans in order to reduce the level of mortalities. We have developed techniques that reduce risk of escapes. The escapes can influence the habitat of the sea.
We have 24h underwater camera monitoring system and everyday divers check the stability of nets connected to the cages.
We focus on sustainable aquaculture in terms of production which is low in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while preserving natural resources and biodiversity. We also focus on the social importance of aquaculture as a food source, providing essential nutrients to the global population.
In social terms, Turkish Salmon trout farming helps to ensure employment and steady incomes in Trabzon. Increased production volumes, creates new job opportunities for people who are working at farms and processing plants.
We aim to have international Sustainability certifications such as MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) in the near future.
